SEDOM PDF Print
The Marengo-Union Elementary School District 165 is a member of SEDOM (the special
education district of McHenry County). Students whose special education needs cannot be
met within our school system may be eligible for services within the umbrella of SEDOM
programs. SEDOM has a number of programs for students located both at the SEDOM School
in Woodstock and various school buildings throughout the county. In fact, SEDOM is
currently renting Evergreen Park Elementary School in Union. It uses that facility to house
programs for students with social and emotion needs from various schools within McHenry
County.
District #165 offers a continuum of both programs and services for its eligible students.
Services begin at aged three and may be just speech and language therapy or placement in
an early childhood program. Throughout the kindergarten through eighth grade years both
instructional special education classes and resource support are available for eligible students
depending upon needs. Programs and services are provided whenever possible in the school
a student would attend if s/he were not considered to be eligible for special education
services.
Related services including summer school are provided for eligible students.
Specialists, such as teachers of the visual and hearing impaired who may just work in the
district a few hours per week are employed through SEDOM on a contract basis.
